Email Trails

Have you thought about those emails you forward on?   You know, the ones that have been forwarded to you and have heaps of names and email addresses on it already?

Do these people and yourself a favour.  Delete all the addresses and when you forward on, use the B.C.C. field to send to multiple addresses.  That way you're preventing all the addresses being viewed by others, and may even save your friends the trouble of being spammed by someone who comes across them.

Also, if there are replies to replies to replies - delete the oldest ones and only retain those that are necessary and current.  The trail gets far too long.

Questions & Answers
Do you carry your cards with you always?

How do I find work?

Something we all want to know.  First, and foremost, have business cards on hand ALL THE TIME.  They don't have to be expensive, but they do need to show your name, business name, contact information (should be at least five:  phone, fax, address, email and web), and something that indicates what you do - particularly if your business name doesn't.  Give your cards out to anybody and everybody - initially the bulk of your work is going to come from personal contacts.  Eventually it will come via word-of-mouth from enthusiastic clients who have become your advocates, and then as you build your business, and your name gets around, it will come from people who've heard about you - by printed articles, conversations, advertisements, online presence, and so on.

Start Networking - join discussion groups online, but don't forget the business networks close to home.  You still need those 'around-the-corner' clients too, especially as you build your business.
